May 18, 2026
The Department of English Language Teaching of University of Jaffna organized a field visit to J/Moolai Saivapragaasa Vidyalayam on May 18, 2026, with the participation of third-year ELT undergraduates. Mr. V. Paranthaman and Mrs. Luxika Raguram participated in the field visit as staff members of the department.
The primary objective of the visit was to assess the semantic priming skills of rural school students in Grades 9 and 10. During the visit, the undergraduates actively engaged with the students and conducted activities designed to evaluate their language processing and vocabulary association abilities. In addition to the assessment, valuable data were collected for presentation at an academic forum, contributing to ongoing research in the field of English language teaching and learning.
The team also visited Ponnalai Varatharaja Perumal Kovil, a well-known Hindu temple recognized for its cultural and spiritual importance, and later visited Casuarina Beach, one of the most scenic beaches in northern Sri Lanka. The field visit successfully combined academic research, practical exposure, and cultural experience, making it both educational and memorable for the participating undergraduates.
