Department of English Language Teaching – Event Highlights

The Department of English Language Teaching hosted a series of distinguished events during the months of April and May 2025, reflecting its commitment to academic enrichment and intellectual discourse.

SEMINAR ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

The first of these was a Seminar on English Language Teaching Research, convened by the English Language Forum. The seminar took place on Thursday, 10th April 2025 at 3:00
PM in the Seminar Hall.

It was presided over by the Head of the Department, Dr. K. Shanmuganathan.

The seminar featured three presentations—one delivered by a teacher trainer and the remaining two by the teachers from Uduvil Girls’ College. The session offered a stimulating platform for the exchange of pedagogical insights and contemporary research in the field of English language instruction.

BOOK LAUNCH

The second notable event was the Launch of a seminal publication titled “English Language
in Global and Sri Lankan Contexts”, authored by Mr. V. Paranthaman. The book was
reviewed by Dr. Mrs. K. Sivaji.

The event was held on 2nd May 2025 at the Arts Seminar Hall and was well-attended by students and staff.

The event marked a significant contribution
to the discourse on English language usage within both international and local spheres.

TAMIL SCHOLARS’ DAY

SPECIAL CONTEST

The third event was the Tamil Scholars’ Day, organized by the English Language Forum
specially by Prof. K. Shriganeshan.

The occasion featured a speech contest, in which
second-year students of the ESP Humanities (Tamil Special) programme showcased their
oratorical talents. The participants performed admirably, securing commendable places.
