Orientation Programme for English Courses<\/p>\n

The Orientation Programme for the Diploma in Professional English (Batch V) and the Certificate Course in English (Batch VI) was successfully held on 06 June 2026 at 9.00 a.m. in the Library Auditorium. The programme was organized to welcome the newly enrolled students and to provide them with essential information regarding their respective courses, academic requirements, and learning opportunities.<\/h2>\n

The event was presided over by Prof. J. Robinson, Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL). The proceedings commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp. This ceremonial event was attended by academic staff members, course coordinators, administrative staff of CODL and students enrolled in both programmes.<\/h2>\n

Following the lighting of the lamp ceremony, Dr. K. Sanmuganathan, Head of the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) and Coordinator of the Diploma in Professional English Programme, delivered the welcome address. He warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of English language proficiency in academic, professional, and personal contexts. He also provided a comprehensive introduction to the Diploma in Professional English programme, outlining its objectives, course structure, assessment procedures, and expected learning outcomes. He encouraged students to actively engage in the learning process and make the best use of the opportunities provided by the programme.<\/h2>\n

Thereafter, Prof. J. Robinson addressed the gathering. In his speech, he emphasized the role of lifelong learning and the significance of distance education in enhancing access to higher education. He briefed the students on the services and facilities available through CODL and motivated them to remain committed to their studies. He further highlighted the importance of discipline, dedication, and effective time management in achieving academic success.<\/h2>\n

Subsequently, Mrs. M. Baheerathan, Coordinator of the Certificate Course in English, addressed the participants enrolled in the certificate programme. She provided an overview of the course and explained its aims, content, assessment methods, and learning expectations. She encouraged students to participate actively in classroom activities and to utilize the programme as a stepping stone towards improving their English language competence and pursuing further educational opportunities. The orientation programme also provided an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the academic environment, meet the coordinators and fellow learners, and clarify any queries regarding their studies. The participants showed keen interest and enthusiasm throughout the programme.<\/h2>\n

The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. L. Raguram, who expressed her gratitude to the Director of CODL, the Head of DELT, the course coordinators, staff members, and students for their valuable contributions and participation in making the programme a success.<\/h2>\n
